Simon Stone's
'The Daughter'(2015) shows the life of a family riddled with secrets and how
character Christian returns home to find out these secrets. The film opens
introducing the character Henry, the father of Christian. Christian has
returned from America to Australia for his fathers wedding, the film shows
Christians struggles with his father’s new younger wife and the past death of
his own mother. As the film progresses we are introduced to Christian’s best
friend Oliver and his wife Charlotte and their daughter Hedvig. In a twist of
events Christian discovers that Oliver’s daughter Hedvig is actually the
daughter of Henry his own father after Oliver’s wife Charlotte had an affair.
Christian then gets drunk and explains this to his friend Oliver who then
cannot stand to look at his daughter Hedvig who proceeds to commit suicide over
the heartbreak of her father despising her which we see him regret at the end
of the film.
